Hello, I look forward to hearing from you and working with you toward your goals! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed to do mental health therapy with clients in North Carolina. I focus my work with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, women, couples, and families. I generally take an Eclectic approach depending on the needs of my clients. My main approaches include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, all with a person-centered, and trauma-informed lens.
Over the years I have worked in a variety of settings including foster care, group homes, crisis intervention, direct therapy with intensive in-home therapy service, and as a care coordinator for Medicaid under Cardinal Innovations. These experiences have helped me see what works first hand, not just through the textbooks. I have used these experiences to focus my work to be as effective as possible in our time allotted.
I am passionate about and have extensive experience helping caretakers with children and adolescents in their care. I enjoy therapy with children and adolescents who often get a bad reputation for engagement in therapy. Areas of focus with children and adolescents often include decreasing defiance, self-harm, inappropriate social media use, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, peer conflict, aggression, and general misbehaving. Adolescents respond well to my non-lecturing, and real-world approach. I address the existential nature of adolescents finding their way in this social-media focused world, and navigating the influences around them. I enjoy exploring situations with a non-judgmental approach which helps them discuss their past decisions while also exploring more effective decisions to use in the future. By focusing on their goals that we set together, the child and adolescent feel empowered and motivated to their own change.
The second part of my work with children and adolescents is with the caregivers of these children. This is done by teaching behavioral modification techniques to help caregivers learn to modify troublesome behaviors in the home. This helps the parents make positive changes to help reduce defiance, delinquency, and conflict even further. I provide research-based psycho-education to caregivers identifying techniques on managing crisis situations calmly and effectively, and providing parenting approaches that are effective in creating change. Through the work with both the parents and the child, the family builds their abilities to effectively communicate, managing anger, and manage emotions to benefit the entire family system.
I am also passionate about working with individuals of all ages and couples in reaching their goals. I take a very motivational, solution-focused, and encouraging approach to help clients work on their goals. common areas of focus include but are not limited to increasing self-esteem, decreasing depression, decreasing anxiety, anger management, increasing communication skills, learning to discuss more and argue less, and learning how to effectively manage emotions. More specifically with couples, The focus is often related to increasing their connection and decrease conflict. I have a very future-focused approach to working to build communication skills and turn arguments into discussions. Working toward future solutions rather than focusing on past issues has proven effective for the couples I have worked with. This has helped them move forward in a more positive space to make the changes needed to thrive in their relationships going forward.
